Cosmos Training & Development Program To Oversee Training In Westchester’s Largest Indoor Sports Facility
Soccer News: The New York Cosmos are in the ‘House’! Westchester County Executive, Robert P. Astorino, and the House of Sports celebrated the Cosmos’ growing footprint in Westchester by announcing a partnership with the House of Sports, the largest indoor sports facility in Westchester County.
New York Cosmos Chief Operating Officer, Erik Stover presented the County Executive with an official team jersey during The Soccer Summer Camp at the state-of-the-art facility in Ardsley.
“Westchester County is excited to welcome the New York Cosmos,” Astorino said. “Thanks to outstanding businesses like House of Sports, professional teams are Westchester Smart when it’s time to expand their footprint. I am proud to say the Cosmos are one of those teams.”
The partnership with the House of Sports includes an agreement with the Cosmos Training and Development Program (TDP) to oversee all soccer training activities at the House of Sports and offer a wide range of classes, clinics and camps for youth soccer players of all ages and abilities – which are already underway.
“The New York Cosmos have a strong belief in the importance of youth development in the U.S. and this partnership not only helps implement our youth training philosophy but also enables us to reach more of our fans in Westchester,’’ Stover said.
New York Cosmos instructor Charley Marshall has assumed the position of Training Coordinator at the House of Sports and will oversee all day-to-day soccer operations at the House of Sports.
“Entering into a training partnership with the New York Cosmos ensures that our athletes have access to leading curriculums and coaches” said Frank Lombardy, Vice President of Programming at the House of Sports. “Charley Marshall is an amazing resource who has a proven track record in helping youth soccer players dramatically improve their on-field skills.”
In addition to after-school, age and position specific classes and camps, the New York Cosmos will also run a full and part-time elite development program. Athletes who would like to devote themselves to high-level training will now have the opportunity to attend a full-time program where they can attend school at the House of Sports and train 3-5 hours per day.
Earlier this summer in Westchester, the Cosmos hosted their second annual soccer clinic to raise money to help grant some wishes in partnership with the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Hudson Valley. The three-day soccer camp in June was held at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY and raised $15,000. The money raised was able to grant the wishes of two local children with life-threatening medical conditions.
“We’re delighted to be partners with the House of Sports,” said John Fitzgerald, NY Cosmos Director of Training and Development. “This state-of-the-art facility allows us the opportunity to bring Cosmos training to youth players in and around the Westchester area. As well as training for all levels of players, we’ll be conducting camps and clinics for individuals and teams. We’re also grateful that the House of Sports worked with us in successfully running our 2nd Annual Make-A-Wish campaign along with Rivertowns United Soccer Club, where we raised $15,000 and were able to grant 2 wishes.”
This partnership also allows the Cosmos an opportunity to vastly expand their growing soccer training network into the Westchester area.
