Certification Course on Long Island for Those Interested in Becoming an Assistant Referee

New York Youth Soccer News: An entry level course to become an Assistant Referee is open for registration for candidates to officiate Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) and Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) games this spring.
“With a tremendous number of games to cover every weekend, LISRA’s recruiting process is continual,” said Long Island Soccer Referee Association (LISRA) President Cathy Caldwell. “In conjunction with a great instructional staff, we are able to meet the increasing demand for soccer officials on Long Island.”
Being a soccer referee is important and provides a valuable services to the beautiful game.
The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Entry Level Referee Course Grade 9 (not the school grade) is for individuals who will be at least 12 years old by the completion of the course and want to work as an Assistant Referee (on the lines).
If you are 13 and older, LISRA can use you to officiate LIJSL games. If you are 12 years old, you can officiate your own intramural club.
What do you need to do?
Candidates must attend all four sessions—April 14, 15, 21 and 22––from 7:00 to 9:30 pm all four nights at the Hauppauge Middle School, 600 Townline Road, Hauppauge, NY 11788.
A mandatory parent’s meeting is held at 7:00 pm on April 14 and lasts approximately an hour.
How much does this coast?
The fee for the course is $140, payable by check or online through PayPal (secure site). Candidates who cancel after the closing date (April 10) will be issued a refund less the cost of the uniform kit ($55). PayPal will require credit card information at the end of the online registration process. Candidates whose payments are not received at the LISRA office (to LISRA Referee Class, 701-9 Koehler Ave, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779) by the course closing date may be removed from the course.
High Schoolers:
As part of the Grade 9 requirements, candidates will need to complete all 17 of the online Grade 9 Referee Course Modules prior to the first class. They must enter the State Association NEW YORK – EAST and Clinic Number 1P in order to get credit for the module. Print a copy of the certificate that appears at the end of each module for records and bring to the first day of the course.
Each module is approximately 4-6 minutes long. To complete all 17 modules on the Laws of the Game would require about 90 minutes, the length of a soccer game. The link for the Modules is http://www.ussoccer.com/Referees/Resource-Center/Online-Training/Grade-9-Referee-Course.aspx.
Candidates must receive at least 80% on the written exam at the conclusion of the course to pass.

Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association: With over 100,000 youth soccer players–both boys and girls–and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border.
