Brentwood Scorpions Three-Peat as Arch Cup Champs
New York Youth Soccer News: Brentwood had dominated the Arch Cup during the past three years
A three-goal hat trick by Cheilis Rodriguez and an additional goal by Milena Ochoa paced the Brentwood Scorpions to their third consecutive Arch Cup championship. Brentwood defeated another Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) team, the Oceanside Thunderbolts, 4-0, to win the Girls-Under-15 Arch Cup Platinum championship game on June 9 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.
“The first half was equal and we scored just one goal in the first half,” Brentwood coach Hector Santos explained. “But we were able to put three goals by Oceanside, a very good team, in the second half.”
Brentwood’s Kimberly Gomez recorded the shutout in net.
Oceanside received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. The namesake of the award, who died in 2016, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980, it has since been copied around the world and he spoke about the benefits of Fair Play across the United States.
