Futsal Referee Course to Be Held on February 4 and 5 on Long Island
New York Youth Soccer News: New Yorkers who want to ref futsal should register today
Futsal is a wonderful player development tool and it’s the only form of indoor soccer officially approved by FIFA, soccer’s world governing body.
Futsal also helps develop referees in addition to players. Just as US Soccer needs its officials to become certified to ref outdoor soccer, US Soccer offers referee courses for refs to be able to officiate futsal games.
As winter is the height of futsal activity in New York, the next futsal certification course will be held very soon, on the weekend of February 4 and 5 at Newfield High School, 145 Marshall Drive in Selden, Long Island.
On Saturday, February 4, the course goes from 9 am to 4 pm and on Sunday, February 5 from 9 am to noon. Immediately following the course, there will be a meeting from noon to 2 pm to help officials become assigned to ref local futsal games.
The cost is $90 made via Paypal. Refs already certified for outdoor soccer need not purchase new uniforms as the same kits are used for futsal.
Before the course, candidates must complete the US Soccer Grade 8 Futsal Referee Modules and the US Soccer registration form. For the modules, registration form and to register, log on to https://sites.google.com/site/ussffutsalreferee/futsal-referee-course
