Soccer News: This Sunday, the world’s biggest five-a-side global soccer tournament, Neymar Jr’s Five, returns to Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ. This event is inspired by the street football Neymar Jr himself grew up playing.
Winning Team to Compete in The US Finals in Miami in June
What makes this style of soccer unique? It’s 5v5, 10-minute matches, but every time a team scores, the opposition loses a player, creating a fast-paced play that rewards the most tactical and precise teams.
This brand of soccer is inspired by the street football Neymar Jr. grew up playing in Brazil.
The top NY/NJ team from this qualifier will then travel down to Miami for the US Finals in June with the dream of advancing to the World Final played at the Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr in Praia Grande, Brazil.
What is Neymar Jr’s Five?
- Neymar Jr’s Five, the world’s biggest five-a-side football tournament, returns to Red Bull Arena on May 13th.
- Five-a-side teams battle it out in 10-minute matches with a twist. Every time one team scores, the opposition loses a player, which makes it fast, technical and tactical.
- The top team from each qualifier will then travel to the US finals in Miami in June with the ultimate goal of earning a spot in the World Final at the Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr in Praia Grande, Brazil.

- 9:00 AM – Player Registration Begins
- 10:00 AM – Group Play Begins
- 1:00 PM – Women’s Semi Finals
- 1:24 PM – Co-ed Semi Finals
- 1:36 PM – Female Finals
- 1:48 PM – Co-ed Finals

Outside of gameplay, additional on-site activations include:
New York Red Bull’s Pro FIFA Player, Mike LaBelle, will challenging athletes on the field, as well as off the field in FIFA
NYRB Freestyler Crew will entertain the crowd with freestyle routines and challenge participants for a chance to win Red Bull’s tickets
Comedians and soccer fanatics, The Cooligans, will keep the energy up and serve as the day’s MCs
Shortcut Barbershop will provide players and spectators with Neymar Jr’s signature hairstyle with complimentary haircuts
In 2017, more than 100,000 players from 53 countries signed up to play in the Neymar Jr’s Five and 2018 promises to be even bigger with qualifiers in 17 U.S. cities and six continents worldwide. This year’s tournament is open to co-ed and all-female teams of five to seven players aged 18 to 25 with two players over the age of 25 allowed on the squad.
