Soccer News: The 2016 Olympics in Rio kick off on August 5th with the U.S. Women’s National Team looking to continue its reign of dominance with a fourth consecutive gold medal in the Summer Olympics.
Nike has released the official home kit for the summer games in a refreshing all white kit that represents the Yankees in a classic manner. Julie Johnston, Christen Press and reigning World Player of the Year Carli Lloyd show off the team’s new uniforms in the latest release by Nike Football.
The USWNT defeated Japan in the finals in 2012 having previously lost to the frequent rival who topped the U.S. in the final of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The United States defeated Japan in the World Cup Final last summer to claim its third title ending a 16 year drought. The USWNT have brought home four gold medals with the first coming in 1996 as Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy pushed the U.S. to world class status.
The Olympic kit is also accompanied by the Women’s Spark Brilliance Pack, which features red-white-blue Hypervenom, Mercurial and Tiempo boots designed complete the uniforms with a head-to-toe look.
With just over a month to go until kickoff, the U.S. Women’s National Team continues its preparation in the National Women’s Soccer League as teams gear up for the final stretch of the season.
