Soccer News: Five NJ Youth Soccer Teams Compete in US Youth Soccer Region I Presidents Cup
Five NJ Youth Soccer teams competed this weekend in the 2015 US Youth Soccer Region I (East) Presidents Cup in Slippery Rock, PA. Three of the five teams reached the finals and PDA Rossi (U14 boys) were crowned champions in the U14 Boys group.
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup offers teams the challenge of experiencing different types of play by competing from state to regional to national levels. The 3-day tournament featured 99 US Youth Soccer teams that had won their respective State Presidents Cup events from the 15 US Youth Soccer State Associations in Region I. The Presidents Cup provides teams with a progressive, competitive experience that highlights competition, camaraderie and community.
“The Presidents Cup Tournament overall was a great experience and tested our team’s character to the fullest,” said Mario Correia, PDA Rossi Head Coach. “We played quality teams and won every game without conceding any goals, which is a true testament to the players’ hard work and dedication throughout the season.” “The tournament was a challenging experience for our team. We were pushed to our limits physically and mentally but managed to stick to our game plan. Every player did their job on the field and I’m proud of our effort,” said Derick Obour, PDA Rossi forward. PDA Rossi will now advance to the 2015 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, July 9-12 in Overland Park, KS.
The Pt. Pleasant Barracudas (U14 girls) and the Union Lady Dragons (U16 girls) experienced success and advanced to the finals of the competition. Toms River United (U13 Boys) and Hamilton Rush (U13 Girls) also made strong showings at the regional competition.
