2017 Staples Make More Happen Goal of the Year Announced
Prince Idornigie of Virginia Beach City FC has received 2017 Staples Make More Happen Goal of the Year honors for his stellar volley from 25 yards out during a July matchup. The goal was selected by fans and supporters in an online voting process.
NPSL Soccer News: The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) has announced that Virginia Beach City FC forward Prince Idornigie’s July 9th goal against FC Frederick has been selected as the 2017 Staples Make More Happen Goal of the Year.
“I would like to thank God for his mercy and grace over me for giving me this opportunity,” said Idornigie. “I also want to express my sincere appreciation and thanks to the NPSL for recognizing me with the Staples Make More Happen Goal of the Year Award,” said Idornigie.
“I am truly humbled and honored to receive it. I would especially like to commend my coaching staff, family, friends, teammates, and the supporters of Virginia Beach City FC and WVU Tech Athletics, who have so generously supported my efforts with their time by voting for me,” said Idornigie. “I am deeply grateful for this honor. I ask that the community continue to support Virginia Beach City FC in advancing the quality of life for our youth.”
Indornigie appeared in 60 games over four seasons for WVU Tech, finishing with an impressive 13 goals and 13 assists.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the NPSL, especially with Virginia Beach City FC being a growing club on the rise,” said Dante’ Dio, Virginia Beach City FC Social Media/Marketing Manager. “I want to thank the city of Virginia Beach and our fans for a tremendous season because, without you all, none of our success would be possible. I would also like to thank Prince for coming in every day and putting in the work needed to be one of the best. It was a treat to see you grow throughout the season and get better with every game. This award represents the hard work you put in all season. Enjoy it, young man.”
The Durham, NC, native was named a Third Team NAIA All-American in 2016 after earning NAIA National Championship All-Tournament team and River States Conference (RSC) First Team honors. He also earned Man of the Match honors at VBCFC on July 9th after helping his team to another win and a first-place finish in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.
