NPSL Spotlight With Elma N’For of Asheville City SC
SoccerToday spoke with NPSL Player of the Week Elma N’For in our latest highlight interview of the award’s recipients. The Cameroon native attended Wingate University and was a member of the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship squad.

NPSL Soccer News: Asheville City SC forward Elma N’For was awarded Mitre National Player of the Week honors following his hat-trick performance during Week 12 of the 2017 NPSL season.
SoccerToday spoke with N’For as we present our latest exclusive interview on the NPSL’s Mitre Player of the Week.
Diane Scavuzzo: Congratulations on being NPSL Player of the Week — What does it take to be an impact player?
Elma N’For: The willingness to realize that the team is bigger than you and to work yourself to the ground for them.
Diane Scavuzzo: When did you join your team?
Elma N’For: I joined Asheville City SC on May 15th. This is my first ever NPSL season.
Diane Scavuzzo: What do you like best about Asheville City SC?
Elma N’For: I like the fact that we enjoy each other’s company on and off the pitch.
Diane Scavuzzo: What do you like best about playing your position?
Elma N’For: I enjoy playing striker because of the constant battles with the other team’s defenders.
Diane Scavuzzo: When did you first start playing soccer?
Elma N’For: I started playing soccer when I was 8 years old for a recreational team called the Flames and I was coached by my father.
Diane Scavuzzo: Did you play collegiate soccer?
Elma N’For: I played at Wingate University for coach Gary Hamill.
Diane Scavuzzo: Please tell us about your coach — what is he like to play for?
Elma N’For: My coach is a man of few words, but when he speaks, you listen.
He is very wise and understands the game like I understand chocolate chip cookies.
He pushes you to the limit and demands the best from all his players.
Diane Scavuzzo: What inspires you?
Elma N’For: My family. My magnificent girlfriend and being in the land of opportunity inspires me.
America is one of the few places where you can really be what you want to be if you work hard at it.
Diane Scavuzzo: What are your goals as a player?
Elma N’For: To play professionally — whether in MLS, USL or in Europe. I would love to play in Europe but with the way soccer is growing in America, don’t be surprised if you see me in MLS.
Diane Scavuzzo: If you could pick any super power, what would it be and why?
Elma N’For: Mind reading because the sports I play.
If you can outthink your opponent then you got him beat.
Diane Scavuzzo: Who is your favorite soccer team or player?
Elma N’For: My favorite player right now is Sergio Aguero. Behind closed doors, I secretly support any team but Manchester United and Chelsea because those are the teams my two brothers support.
