McCall Zerboni Returns to WNY Flash from the Boston Breakers
GoingHome — McCall Zerboni returns to the WNY Flash from the Boston Breakers in exchange for a second round draft pick in the 2017 NWSL College draft. Zerboni is the second most capped player in Flash history as well as sits ninth in all-time goals for the club.
Soccer News: The Western New York Flash acquire midfielder McCall Zerboni from the Boston Breakers in an exchange for a second round pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. Zerboni returns to the Flash after being a member of the club’s 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer and 2012 Women’s Premier Soccer League Elite championship-winning teams. Zerbonie was also a member of the 2013 and 2014 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) campaigns. At 29 years of age Zerboni has made a total of eight starts with the Breakers during he 2016 campaign.
Zerboni receives praise from Flash head coach Paul Riley in regard to her first stint with the club, which he notes was a huge success that he believes can reproduce her best form and propel the team forward. The Camarillo, California, native made a total of 44 appearances with the Flash in the NWSL era so far. She returns as the second most capped player in team history and sits ninth in all-time goals for the club with a total of four.
“McCall is a great professional who understands the process and what it takes to perform day in and day out,” added Riley. “We needed to add quality, experience and depth to our midfield, and McCall ticks all the boxes. Her work rate, resilience and character will be massive for our young group, and we look forward to integrating her into our competitive training environment.”
Zerboni joined Portland Thorns FC in 2015 from the Flash when Riley served as head coach for the team along with current Flash assistant coach Scott Vallow and defender Courtney Niemiec also members of the 2015 Thorns. Zerboni will join fellow former UCLA Bruins Abby Dahlkemper, Samantha Mewis, Katelyn Rowland and Taylor Smith as she returns to the Flash for the 2016 NWSL campaign.
