Christen Press Named NWSL Player of the Week
Christen Press has been named NWSL Player of the Week following a standout performance to edge leaguer leaders North Carolina Courage. The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.

NWSL Soccer News: Chicago Red Stars forward Christen Press has received National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week honors for Week 6 of the 2017 season.
Press recorded a goal and an assist to lead Chicago to a 3-1 victory versus the North Carolina Courage at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Red Stars tallied their first road win of the season and extended their overall unbeaten streak to three matches.
The Los Angeles native’s first goal came from the penalty spot in the 30th minute after she was taken down in the box by Courage goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo.
Press then turn provider as she played in a ball over the top to meet Sofia Huerta at the edge of 18-yard box with her back to goal. A quick step-over by Huerta opened up enough space to send in a curling, right-footed shot to the far post.
Press played all 90 minutes in the victory — registering three shots on target, while creating two chances and completing 86.2 percent of her passes.
The goal for the U.S. international was her second of this campaign. She has played all 540 minutes for the Red Stars this season and leads the NWSL with 14 shots on goal and ranks second in overall shots with 23.
It is the second time Press has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week and the ninth occasion a Red Stars player has received the award.
The Chicago Red Stars will now host the North Carolina Courage on Saturday, May 27, at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
