Samantha Kerr of Sky Blue FC is Named NWSL Player of the Week
Samantha Kerr of Sky Blue FC is voted NWSL Player of the Week following her two-goal match that led her side past the Orlando Pride. The Fremantle, Australia native receives the honor for the second time in her career as the NWSL regular season comes to a close.
NWSL Soccer News: Sky Blue FC forward Samantha Kerr has been named the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week for Week 18 of the 2016 NWSL season.
The Fremantle, Australia native tallied two goals in back-to-back matchups with the Orlando Pride during Week 18. Kerr’s first goal came during a 1-1 draw against the Orlando Pride on Wednesday at Yurcak Field in New Jersey. She tallied her second goal against the Pride on Saturday at Camping World Stadium to help Sky Blue win 2-1.
Kerr’s first goal came in the 80th minute against Orlando off a rebound following a strike from Sky Blue forward Maya Hayes.
She scored her second goal of the week against Orlando in the 49th minute in a stunning solo effort with a strike from outside the eighteen past Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.
Kerr finished with twelve shots (five on goal) for the week, playing 90 minutes in both matches against Orlando.
Kerr receives NWSL Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career, as she becomes the sixth player in Sky Blue FC history to win the award.
Sky Blue FC host Portland Thorns FC Yurcak Field on Sunday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
