Crystal Dunn Named NWSL Player of the Week
Crystal Dunn has been named NWSL Player of the Week after playing a pivotal role in North Carolina Courage’s win over Sky Blue FC. The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
NWSL Soccer News: North Carolina Courage forward Crystal Dunn has received NWSL Player of the Week honors, as voted by the NWSL Media Association. Dunn earns the accolade after scoring the opening goal in the Courage’s 2-1 victory over Sky Blue FC on Saturday, May 19th. With the win, the Courage improved to 7/W-0/L-2/T.
This is the seventh time Dunn has earned NWSL Player of the Week, making her the all-time leader in league history.
Her goal came in the 16th minute off a cross from forward Jessica McDonald. The opportunity began with a forced turnover in the midfield by Debinha who played McDonald down the right flank. McDonald sent a cross into the box with Dunn crashing in and finishing a left-footed one-time shot for the go-ahead goal.
The goal marked Dunn’s fourth during the 2018 campaign. She sits tied for second place in the league for scoring. In addition to the tally, Dunn finished the game with four shots and four key passes. Out of 32 total passes, she had a 81.3% passing success rate.
