Megan Rapinoe has been named NWSL Player of the Week after recording a brace in Seattle Reign’s win over Sky Blue FC. The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
NWSL Soccer News: Seattle Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe has received NWSL Player of the Week honors, as voted by the NWSL Media Association. Rapinoe was previously named Player of the Week for the first week of the 2018 campaign.
Rapinoe earned the accolade following a two-goal performance in the Reign’s 4-1 victory versus Sky Blue FC on Saturday, May 12th. This is the sixth time in Rapinoe’s career that she has been named Player of the Week.
Rapinoe’s first tally on Saturday came in the 38th minute following a poor Sky Blue clearance. Rapinoe settled the ball, took a couple touches, and chipped in a calm finish to the far right corner. Her second goal of the night came in the second half. Reign midfielder Nahomi Kawasumi played a through ball down the left flank to Rapinoe who cut inside and finished far post for the 3-0 advantage in the 60th minute. She finished the match with a team-high seven shots and three on target.
The victory marked Rapinoe’s first match after missing the Reign’s last three due to a hamstring injury. She currently sits second place in the league with four goals and has 18 shots with 10 on target this season.
Seattle Reign FC hosts the Chicago Red Stars at UW Medicine Pitch at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 19, at 10 p.m. ET.
