Nicole Barnhart is Named NWSL Player of the Week
Nicole Barnhart of FC Kansas City is named NWSL Player of the Week following the goalkeeper’s fifth shutout of the season in the Blues’ 1-0 win over WNY Flash. The Stanford alum finished with 14 saves on the night as she receives the NWSL honor for the first time in her career.
NWSL Soccer News: FC Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 14 of the 2016 NWSL season.
Barnhart, 34, recorded her fifth shutout of the season to help the Blues earn a 1-0 win Saturday against Western New York Flash at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. It was the team’s third win on the road this season.
The Pottstown, Pa. native made several great saves including one that came in the 42nd minute when she made a sliding effort to cut off a crucial breakaway and potential goal by Western New York’s Lynn Williams.The Stanford alum played all 90 minutes of the game and finished with 14 saves on 24 shots (14 on goal).
It is the first time Barnhart has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week, and the fifth time a member of the Blues has won the award.
FC Kansas City will return to action Saturday, July 30 at 8 p.m. ET against the Chicago Red Stars at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of press that cover the league on a consistent basis.
