Week 16 of the 2016 NWSL Season Kicks Off
Women’s soccer action returns following an exciting 2016 Summer Olympic break in Rio that saw 38 NWSL players represent their countries on the highest stage. Washington Spirit sit atop the NWSL table, while the Portland Thorns and WNY Flash remain on the heels of the league leaders.
NWSL Soccer News: Week 16 of the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season is in full swing as teams gear up for the final stretch before heading into playoffs. The NWSL returns from a short break following the conclusion of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio that saw Germany take home the gold medal for the first time in history.
Orlando Pride open the weekend versus the Washington Spirit on Friday night at Camping World Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Orlando are currently on a three-game losing streak, while the Spirit currently sit three points clear at the top of the NWSL table.

Saturday kicks off with Seattle Reign FC welcoming Portland Thorns FC to Memorial Stadium at 5:00 p.m. ET. Portland sits in second place behind Washington as they look continue their winning ways heading into the last month of the regular season.
Seattle sit mid-table with Scottish midfielder Kim Little leading the club with four goals and two assists on the season.

The Houston Dash travel to Rochester Stadium to take on the Western New York Flash whose young side has brought the into playoff position. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
WNY Flash are led by Lynn Williams and Jessica Mcdonald who claim the top two spots of the NWSL scoring chart. McDonald also leads the league with a total of eight assists in the 2016 season. Houston have been without U.S. Women’s National Team captain Carli Lloyd who was sidelined for most of the season due to a Grade 1 MCL strain.

Saturday concludes with Sky Blue FC hosting the Chicago Red Stars at 7:00 p.m. ET. Chicago sit in fourth place in the NWSL standings with Sky Blue one spot behind in fifth place.
Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher leads the league along with Hope Solo of Seattle with each recording five clean sheets this season.

The final match of the weekend will be held on Sunday at Jordan Field with the Boston Breakers hosting FC Kansas City at 8:00 p.m. ET. Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart leads the league with 67 saves, while forward Shea Groom sits in third place on the scoring chart with 6 goals on the season.
