Washington Spirit Sit in First Place Heading into Week 3 of the NWSL
With two weeks of the NWSL in the books, Washington Spirit remain the only undefeated team in the league as Portland Thorns FC sit in second with one win and one draw. Lindsey Horan of the Portland Thorns leads the league averaging a goal per game along with teammate Tobin Heath leading the league with two assists.
Soccer News: Heading into the third week of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season, Washington Spirit remain the only undefeated team with a pair of wins as they travel to take on Western New York Flash in week three. Sitting in second place is Portland Thorns FC tallying one win and one draw lead by Lindsey Horan and Tobin Heath.
Horan leads the league with most goals averaging a goal per game, while Heath leads the league with three assists in the club’s first two matches of the 2016 season.
Sabrina D’Angelo of the WNY Flash leads the league in most saves tallying 10 in the club’s first two matches of season versus the Chicago Red Stars and FC Kansas City. Alex Morgan of Orlando Pride has taken a total nine shots on goal with five on target. Orlando set the NWSL attendance record during the club’s first home match in the league hosting 23,403 fans at the Orlando Citrus Bowl during week two.
A series of matches are set to kick off in an exciting week of the 2016 NWSL season. Boston Breakers have yet to tally a win this season as they prep to host the Portland Thorns at Jordan Field.
