Washington Spirit and the Chicago Red Stars Sit Atop the Table Ahead of Week 7 in the NWSL
The seventh week of the 2016 NWSL season kicks off as Western New York Flash host the Boston Breakers and Houston Dash welcome Washington Spirit this afternoon. Seattle Reign travel to Providence Park to take on the Portland Thorns following its international friendly match on Thursday night versus Arsenal Ladies FC.
Soccer News: Week 7 of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) kicks off on Friday with Western New York Flash hosting the Boston Breakers at 7:00 p.m. ET and Houston Dash welcoming league-leading Washington Spirit to BBVA Compass Stadium at 8:30 p.m. ET.
WNY Flash are coming off a 5-2 victory over Sky Blue FC with the Boston Breakers recording its first win of the season over two-time defending champions FC Kansas City last weekend. Houston Dash are 2-3-1 on the season having been without Carli Lloyd that past few weeks due to her suffering a Grade 1 sprain of the MCL in her right knee.
Orlando Pride head to Missouri on Saturday to take on FC Kansas City as the expansion club is coming off a three game winning streak in its inaugural season in the NWSL. Team captain Alex Morgan led Orlando over WNY Flash in Week 6 scoring off a breakaway in the 79th minute to give the club another victory at Camping World Stadium.
On Sunday the Chicago Red Stars will face off against Sky Blue FC as Christen Press leads the Red Stars with three goals on the season and a total of 22 shots on target. Alyssa Naeher of Chicago is tied for most clean sheets in the league along with Washington Spirit goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe.
Portland Thorns FC welcome Seattle Reign FC to Providence Park at 7:00 p.m. ET on Sunday led by Tobin Heath who was named NWSL Player of the Month for April and Player of the Week for Week 6. Seattle Reign FC recently played in an international friendly on Thursday night versus Arsenal Ladies FC playing out a 1-1 draw at Memorial Stadium.
