NWSL Kicks off Week 8 of 2016 Season
Week 8 of the 2016 NWSL season kicks off tonight as Boston Breakers take on Washington Spirit at Jordan Field. The Chicago Red Stars face off against second place Portland Thorns FC on Sunday as another action packed weekend in the NWSL unfolds.
Soccer News: Week 8 of the 2016 NWSL season kicks off this afternoon with the Boston Breakers welcoming Washington Spirit to Jordan Field at 7:00 pm E.T. Boston currently sits at the bottom of the table with a single win as Washington Spirit comes off a two-week break following its match versus the Houston Dash being postponed due to weather conditions.
Alex Morgan and the Orlando Pride travel to take on Western New York Flash for the second time this season at 7:00 pm E.T. on Saturday. Morgan scored the lone goal of the initial match off an assist from Kristen Edmonds in a 1-0 victory at Camping World Stadium.The second Saturday match includes FC Kansas City traveling to New Jersey to take on Sky Blue FC at 7:00 pm E.T. FC Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart currently leads the league in total saves at 29, with the club coming off a 2-0 victory versus Orlando. Sky Blue played out a 1-1 draw versus league leaders Chicago Red Stars in Week 7.
To conclude the weekend the Chicago Red Stars host second place Portland Thorns FC on Sunday at 6:00 pm E.T. Chicago who sits in first place will be led by U.S. Women’s National Team players Christen Press and Julie Johnston as Portland midfielder Tobin Heath aims to keep up her stellar form as she leads in the league in assists with five on the season. Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher leads the league in clean sheets along with Washington goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe at four a piece.
USWNT goalkeeper Hope Solo and Seattle Reign FC concludes the weekend at home versus the Houston Dash at 7:00 pm E.T. Seattle and the Portland Thorns played out a scoreless draw in Week 7 of the NWSL as clubs prepare for another exciting week in women’s soccer.
