NY Red Bulls Blow Past New York City FC at Yankee Stadium
New York Red Bulls dominated New York City FC in a 7-0 victory over the weekend as Rivaly Week in the MLS comes to a close. The Red Bulls opened up scoring in the third minute off a Dax McCarthy goal as Frank Lampard made his 2016 MLS Season debut coming off the bench for Andrea Pirlo.
MLS Soccer News: The New York Red Bulls traveled to face off against New York City FC during Rivalry Week in the MLS. The Saturday match at Yankee Stadium concluded 7-0 as NY Red Bulls dominated the match and now sit one point behind New York City in third place of the Eastern Conference.
The Red Bulls tallied four goals on the night to give its club the largest victory in the New York Derby to date. Dax McCarthy opened up scoring in the third minute off an assist from Sacha Kljestan to give the traveling club the early lead.
The Red Bulls added two more goals just before the break off a brace from Bradley Wright-Phillips. The goals continued to pour on as New York City was unable to come out with a response in the second half.
NYCFC controlled possession 57 to 43 percent as NY Red Bulls recorded 17 shots versus New York City’s 11 attempts. NYCFC were issued three yellow cards in the first half of play with Connor Lade receiving the Red Bulls’ lone yellow card in the 73rd minute.
Frank Lampard made his 2016 MLS Season Debut in the second half coming off the bench for Andrea Pirlo in the 75th minute, but the scoreline was too much to come back from.
New York City FC currently sit in second place of the Eastern Conference with the NY Red Bulls one point behind. NYCFC host Orlando City SC this weekend at Yankee Stadium who is coming off a 2-1 win versus the Montreal Impact.

The New York Red Bulls return home to Red Bull Arena on Saturday to take on Sebastian Giovinco and Toronto FC. Giovinco is currently the league’s top scorer tied along with David Villa and Fanendo Adi of the Portland Timbers.
The MLS Supporters’ Shield Champions will look to continue its strong showing next week as the 2016 MLS season heats up.
