NY Red Bulls Partner with NJ Youth Soccer to Commence Boys Young Olympians Tryouts (2004) and Club NJ Training (2005)
Soccer News: The New York Red Bulls and NJ Youth Soccer opened the winter season with tryouts for its Young Olympians Program (birth year 2004) and training for Club NJYS (birth year 2005). Red Bulls youth trainers led the sessions in four NJ regional areas, connecting with hundreds of today’s young players across the state.
“Both of these programs provide a fantastic opportunity for young players to participate in a professionally structured youth soccer program,” Director of Red Bulls Training Programs Dave Jervis said. “Working with NJYS on these initiatives helps connect us to the grassroots youth soccer community, one of the key priorities for our club. We are hopeful that these programs continue to be a scouting pathway for talented players to progress into the Red Bulls Academy system.”
Both programs are designed to introduce young players to the NJ Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) training curriculum. The program also provides players with a potential pathway into the Red Bulls Regional Development School (RDS). This is the second season that these programs are collaborating and, already, there are examples of players being identified into the Red Bulls Academy, an opportunity for the most talented players. Both programs are led by Red Bulls’ professional youth coaches.
“I think it’s great because the ODP’s a great program and now Red Bull is one of the best development programs in the country,” New York Red Bulls defender and former ODP player Matt Miazga said. “[The ODP] was good because you were playing with the best players in the state of New Jersey and then you move on to the region. It was good when you were training with those guys and the coaches were top tier so it was good to get that level of competition.”
