Three Leagues in Eastern New York Host Conventions and Workshops in March
If you want to meet enthusiastic volunteers, come to any of the conventions and workshops that Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) leagues will be hosting in March. Before the first ball is kicked this spring, three leagues host large meetings to make sure the Spring Season runs smoothly.
The 33rd Annual Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Convention is annually one of the world’s largest soccer conventions and is at the Huntington Hilton. The fun begins at 7 pm on Friday night, March 6 with the Annual Awards Dinner as the Volunteer of the Year from each LIJSL club will be honored. Gene O’Connell, Frank Schmidt, Joe Visconti and Jim Volpe will be inducted into the LIJSL Hall of Fame at the dinner. The Boys-Under-12 and Girls-Under-12 Sportsmanship Coaches of the Year as nominated in an essay by their players will be honored as well.
Throughout the day on Saturday, March 7 and on Sunday morning, March 8, there will be LIJSL Sportsmanship Award presentations, meetings for club presidents, coaches and volunteers plus coaches and referee clinics as well as a college forum. Thousands of soccer fans will again be purchasing items from vendors who have come from around the world. For more information, please contact the LIJSL at 631-648-9020.
The 5th Annual Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL) Coaches Workshop takes place on Saturday, March 7 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Sand Creek Middle School in Colonie. Coaching clinics and meetings plus referee clinics are highlights. It’s open to all coaches, referees plus administrators and it is mandatory that a coach or representative from each CDYSL team attend. The CDYSL Coaches Workshop provides a one-day venue for coaches and club administrators to combine attendance at the mandatory coaches meetings with clinics and workshops that enhance player, team and club development.
The all-star line-up of guest clinicians include John Ellinger (former Boys-Under-17 Youth National Team coach and former Real Salt Lake coach), Bill Sampaio (National Coaching Director of U.S. Futsal), Ihor Walter Chyzowych (Coaching Director of Custom Soccer Coaching in Cincinnati), Adam Clinton (RPI men’s head coach), Chris Taylor (Clarkson University men’s head coach) plus Iennaert Bitter and Tom Nota (Dutch Total Soccer in New Jersey). For more info, please phone the CDYSL office at 518-435-2325.
The 13th Annual East Hudson Youth Soccer League (EHYSL) Coaches Convention will be held on Saturday, March 21 from noon to 5 pm at Arlington High School in LaGrangeville. Jeff Tipping, formerly the National Soccer Coaching Association of America (NSCAA) Director of Coaching and now the President of Jeff Tipping Enterprises, will again be instructing after so many positive comments about his clinics at the Coaches Convention last year.
Meetings for coaches, referees, club presidents, club treasurers and club registrars will be taking place as well. For more information, please contact the league at 845-621-0112.
With the exception of the LIJSL Convention’s Annual Awards Dinner, to all three events is absolutely free.
