College Soccer News: UCLA defender Michael Amick has been recognized as Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award is presented in each of the sports the Pac-12 sponsors in order to honor collegiate athletes that are standouts on and off the field.
Amick becomes the third Bruin to earn the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year award as Ryan Hollingshead won in 2012, followed by Joe Sofia in 2013.
Amick, a senior from Sunnyvale, California, maintains a 3.63 GPA and is a three-time All-Pac-12 selection. Amick was a two-time Academic All-American and was named to the 2016 Academic All-America first team as selected by the College Sports Information directors of America (CoSIDA) and earned third team honors last year.
He became the first Bruin since Sofia in 2013 to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America first team honors and just the second UCLA player to receive Academic All-America honors in back-to-back seasons (Joe Sofia, 2012-13). The three-time team captain was also nominated for the Senior CLASS Award and is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree.
