Anton Widen of South Georgia Tormenta FC is named PDL Player of the Week following two shutout victories during Week 7 against Charlotte Eagles and Carolina Dynamo. Widen tallied 15 saves over the two matches as South Georgia prepare to take on Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors on Thursday.
Soccer News: South Georgia Tormenta FC goalkeeper Anton Widen earns PDL Player of the Week honors for Week 7 after making 15 saves over the course of two shutout victories against the Charlotte Eagles and Carolina Dynamo.
Widen made seven saves against the Eagles at Charlotte Christian School on Thursday, helping Tormenta FC earn its first PDL win in team history. He then followed that performance up with eight saves against the Dynamo at Macpherson Stadium on Saturday.

GK – Anton Widen, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Young Harris College’s Widen made 15 saves in total to help Tormenta FC earn two shutout wins on the road in North Carolina.
D – Leandro Browne, SC United Bantams: Browne scored a goal and helped the Bantams secure their fourth win of the regular season against the Tri-Cities Otters on June 14.
D – Aaron Herrera, FC Tucson: University of New Mexico’s Herrera played all 90 minutes on the road against the Southern California Seahorses at La Mirada High School, helping Tucson stay unbeaten by securing a 2-0 victory.
D – Andrew Wheeler–Omiunu, Sounders FC U23: Harvard University’s Wheeler-Omiunu played 180 minutes in a three-day span, leading the Sounders U23 back line to a 2-0 win against the Kitsap Pumas on Friday before helping his side record a 3-1 win against Victoria Highlanders FC on Sunday.
D – Ethan Meyer, BYU Cougars: Meyer played 180 minutes in a three-day span, helped the Cougars earn two 1-0 wins and scored a spectacular game-winning goal on the road against San Francisco City FC at Kezar Stadium.
M – Aleksi Pahkasalo, Derby City Rovers: Lindsey Wilson College’s Pahkasalo scored goals in back-to-back wins against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds U23 and Michigan Bucks, who the Rovers defeated, 3-2.
M – Eric Lynch, Dayton Dutch Lions: Wright State University’s Lynch was the difference-maker in the Dutch Lions’ road win against Kokomo Mantis FC at Kokomo Municipal Stadium, assisting the opening goal before scoring game-winner in the second half.
M – Joseph Holland, Ventura County Fusion: Hofstra University’s Holland scored two goals in the Fusion’s 4-1 road win against the OC Blues U23 at Irvine Valley College on Saturday.
F – Carlos Araujo, The Villages SC: Araujo was instrumental in The Villages SC’s 4-0 road win against IMG Academy Bradenton on Saturday, scoring two goals while assisting the two others.
F – Chae Brangman, Western Mass Pioneers: Southern Connecticut State’s Brangman scored in back-to-back road victories for the Pioneers, scoring the opener against FC Boston on June 15 before netting the game-winner against the Westchester Flames on Saturday.
F – Matthew Hurlow-Paonessa, San Diego Zest FC: Hurlow-Paonessa scored three goals over the course of two games, netting one in Zest FC’s 5-1 road win against FC Golden State Force before scoring two in his side’s 3-0 victory against LA Laguna FC.
