Juan Correra of Jersey Express is Named PDL Player of the Week
Juan Correra of Jersey Express is named PDL Player of the Week after leading his side to a set of wins over Baltimore Bohemians and Lehigh Valley United Sonic in Week 8 of the 2016 season. Correra tallied two goals and three assists in the two matches including the game-winner versus Lehigh Valley in the final 20 minutes of play.
Soccer News: Jersey Express midfielder Juan Correra has been named the PDL Player of the Week after scoring two goals and providing three assists in two victories for his side during Week 8.
Correa was instrumental in helping the Express overpower the Baltimore Bohemians on Tuesday, scoring the second goal of the match before assisting two – including the game-winner – in the 5-2 victory. The midfielder then assisted the opening goal for the Express vs. Lehigh Valley United Sonic on Sunday before scoring the game-winner in the 71st minute of the 2-1 result.
The Des Moines Menace’s Leigh Veidman earns Team of the Week honors for a second time this regular season after scoring four goals in one game.
PDL Team of the Week
GK – Alex Guerra, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Virginia Military Institute’s Guerra was unbeatable during Week 8 for Tormenta FC. The netminder recorded back-to-back shutouts – a 1-0 win vs. Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors and a 3-0 win against the West Virginia Chaos – made five saves in each game and stopped a penalty kick.
D – Dominick Zator, Calgary Foothills FC: University of Calgary’s Zator was a leader in the back line during Week 8 en route to earning back-to-back shutouts against the Kitsap Pumas. Zator has played in all five Foothills FC shutouts this campaign.
D – Justin Springer, K-W United FC: University of Guelph’s Springer played all 90 minutes in each of K-W United’s three matches during Week 8, helping his side earn two wins and a tie while scoring a goal against the Cincinnati Dutch Lions on Thursday.
D – Fernando Machado, Midland/Odessa Sockers FC: Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s Machado was strong in the back for Sockers FC, as the club earned a win and a tie on the road against Mississippi Brilla FC on Thursday and Saturday.
M – Roberto De Lima, The Villages SC: De Lima scored two goals – both game-winners – during Week 8. De Lima scored the team’s third goal in a 5-2 rout of FC Miami City on Tuesday before scoring a late strike against the SW Florida Adrenaline in a 2-1 result on Saturday.
M – Jose Aguinaga, Sounders FC U23: Rider University’s Aguinaga scored two goals and provided one assist in the Sounders U23’s 3-1 win against the Washington Crossfire on Tuesday. He then played 72 minutes in the Sounders U23’s 2-1 win against the Portland Timbers U-23s on Saturday.
M – Akable Miezan, Seacoast United Phantoms: Longwood University’s Miezan scored a hat trick in the Phantoms’ 4-0 win against FA Euro New York on Sunday.
M – Juan Correa, Jersey Express: Correa scored two goals and assisted three others in Jersey’s wins against Lehigh Valley United Sonic and the Baltimore Bohemians.
F – Chevaughn Walsh, Ocean City Nor’easters: Jefferson College’s Walsh scored five goals in two games for the Nor’easters during Week 8. The forward scored a hat trick in the Nor’easters’ 6-1 road win on Tuesday and scored a double in a 4-3 loss to Reading United AC on Saturday.
F – Leonardo Contreras, Southern California Seahorses: Biola University’s Contreras scored four goals and provided one assist in the Seahorses’ 6-1 win against the OC Blues U23.
F – Leigh Veidman, Des Moines Menace: Veidman scored four goals in the Menace’s 7-0 win against WSA Winnipeg on Friday. The forward now has eight goals for the Menace this regular season.
