Plainedge Strikers Take Girls-Under-14 Arch Cup Platinum
New York Youth Soccer News: Plainedge’s outstanding defense was the difference in defeating Bellmore, which pressed from the opening whistle
A two-goal brace by Emma Kelly provided the scoring the Plainedge Strikers would need as they defeated another Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) team, the Bellmore Blue Angels, 2-1, in winning the Girls-Under-14 Arch Cup Platinum. Bellmore were the defending champs and have a long history in the Arch Cup, appearing in the last four finals while winning twice.
This Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game was played under sunny skies on June 9 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.
“We won partly because of the great play of our goalkeeper Victoria Millines and sweeper Danny Gulino, who were both outstanding,” remarked Plainedge coach John Reis.
Bellmore received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. The namesake of the award, who died in 2016, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980, it has since been copied around the world and he spoke about the benefits of Fair Play across the United States.
