Point Loma Nazarene University Earns the No. 2 Seed in NCAA West Regional and Will Host the Tournament
College Soccer News: For the first time the NCAA Regionals will be played at Point Loma Nazarene University.
When the 2017 NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship field announcements came out — it was great to see San Diego’s Point Loma earning the opportunity to host this prestigious men’s college soccer event.
The Point Loma men’s soccer team seeded No. 2 in the NCAA West Regional and will host matches in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championships.
“We have had an incredible season and look forward to the challenges that lay ahead,” says says Philip Wolf, head coach.
“Point Loma is on a 16-match unbeaten streak and has won its last eight matches, which is tied with California Baptist for the longest active winning streak in the West Region. Point Loma are 14-2-2 this year and recorded eight consecutive shutouts during the season,” says Gareth Tomlinson, Assistant Coach – Point Loma University.
“We are excited about the opportunity to play in our first ever NCAA tournament game and even more excited that we are able to host our first ever NCAA game on our beautiful campus,” says Wolf.
Point Loma will open tournament play Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m., against the No. 3 seed Simon Fraser and No. 6 seed Cal Poly Pomona. Simon Fraser and Cal Poly Pomona will go head to head in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
