Orlando City Lion’s Soccer-Specific Stadium
Orlando City’s entrance into MLS has been a highly successful journey with sold out games — 37K average attendance per game – with fans traveling to see the Orlando City Lions. Now, with this level of popularity, what is a city to do? With unclear state funding, the team has worked to secure funding that allows the club to move forward — Orlando City announces private financing for soccer stadium.
Orlando City Lion’s team owner Flávio Augusto da Silva announced the franchise will privately finance the construction of its downtown soccer-specific stadium. Target size: 28,000 seats stadium for soccer lovers to enjoy the beautiful game. With 100% private funding proposed, this is a strong signal that soccer is exploding in the USA – at least, in Florida.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Orlando City Soccer Club president Phil Rawlins thought Orlando was an ideal city in which to build a Major League Soccer club. What he didn’t know was just how big the market could be. Now, he certainly does. “This is a big signal how we believe in this city, how we believe in this community, how we believe in these people, this marketplace and these fans,” Augusto da Silva said.
How is the team performing on the soccer field? Last night, Orlando City SC (4-5-5, 17 points) extended its unbeaten run to four matches, defeating the Chicago Fire 3-2 at Toyota Park.
