Borussia Dortmund Midfielder Christian Pulisic Prepares for Copa America Centenario
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic prepares for his first major tournament with the U.S. Men’s National Team as Copa America Centenario kicks off Friday night. Pulisic has received praise for being a major potential U.S. prospect who has seen his club career take off at Borussia Dortmund since winter break of the 2015/2016 season.
Soccer News: Christian Pulisic has been in the limelight in recent months as the Hershey, Pennsylvania, native prepares for his first U.S. Men’s National Team experience during the inaugural Copa America Centenario.
The United States kicks off the opening match of the tournament tonight at 9:30 pm E.T. versus Colombia at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Colombia will be led by James Rodriguez who turned heads during the 2014 FIFA World Cup as well as Juan Cuadrado of Juventus.
Pulisic may or may not find his way onto the pitch tonight, but following his recent performances with the USMNT it is safe to say you will see his presence on the field at one point throughout the tournament.
Pulisic signed with Borussia Dortmund’s U17 squad in January of 2015 and has climbed through the ranks following the winter break this year. The 17-year-old was included in the starting lineup versus Bayer Leverkusen and rivals FC Schalke 04, as well as coming on as a substitute in various Europe League matches throughout the season. The youngster recorded two goals for BVB during the season making him the youngest non-German and fourth-youngest player to score in the German Bundesliga.
During a friendly against Bolivia last week, Pulisic scored his first international goal making him the youngest player in modern U.S. National Team history to score for the Yanks.
Pulisic joins a United States roster that includes potential future prospects Bobby Wood who recently signed with Bundesliga side Hamburg SV and Deandre Yedlin who was on loan at Stoke City this past season from Tottenham.
Other notable Bundesliga players include Fabian Johnson of Borussia Mönchengladbach and defender John Brooks of Hertha Berlin.
Pulisic will also be accompanied by veterans Michael Bradley and Tim Howard during his first tournament representing the Yanks’ senior team during a month of soccer across the United States.
