Head Coach Ramiro Vengoechea Makes Debut During FC Surge Friendly
FC Surge’s new Head Coach Ramiro Vengoechea takes the pitch for the first time during a friendly match ahead of the 2016 WPSL season. Vengoechea has prior coaching experience in the WPSL as Assistant Coach of the former South Florida Strikers along with playing his collegiate career at Philadelphia University.
Soccer News from FC Surge: Coach Ramiro Vengoechea debuted as the the team’s Head Coach at a friendly exhibition game held on Sunday, March 6th. FC Surge played a local team assembled for the opening of the Madame Gougousse Haiti Cup’s 16th Annual Tournament kick-off at North Miami Athletic Stadium and secured a 4-0 win over the competition.
Coach Vengoechea has prior experience in the WPSL as Assistant Coach of the former South Florida Strikers. He is the Varsity Head Coach of Our Lady of Lourdes Academy’s girls team, which recently finished 2nd in the 2016 FHSAA state final, and was named 2015 Miami Herald All Dade Girls Coach of the Year. He has also coached at Pinecrest Premier Soccer Club since 2007, where his current Girls U17 team is ranked #5 in the state of Florida.
A Miami native, Coach Vengoechea played at Miami Sunset High then went on to Philadelphia University where he was Co-Captain of the D1 Men’s Soccer Team. He completed is BBA in International Business at FIU. He holds a USSF National C License, Coerver Youth Diploma, and ICA Fitness & Conditioning Certification. The Surge are proud to have Coach Vengoechea join the organization.
This is the team’s 4th season in the WPSL. The team consists of experienced and highly-skilled players who range in age from 16 to 30+ and include current college, post-college, and international players. The team hopes to continue to establish itself as the top team in South Florida. The team plays in the Sunshine Region (South Division) of the WPSL, alongside teams located in Jacksonville, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Winter Park, Montverde, Port St. Lucie, and Boca Raton. Postseason games (Divisional Playoffs, Semi-Finals and the Championship game) will be played in select venues across the United States.
Try-Outs for the 2016 squad will be held on Saturday, March 12th 10am-12pm at Tropical Park, 7900 SW 40th Street in Miami and Saturday, March 19th 2pm-4pm at Brian Piccolo Park, 9501 Sheridan Street in Cooper City. The Try-Out registration fee is $35 and includes both sessions as well as a complimentary F.C. Surge t-shirt.
The WPSL season begins on June 1st and runs through July 31st. Surge’s home games are played at North Miami Athletic Stadium, 2555 NE 151 Street, North Miami. The home schedule includes matches on Saturday, June 4th at 7pm versus Florida Krush, Saturday, June 18th at 7pm versus Tampa Bay Hellenic, Sunday, June 19th at 11am versus Pinellas County United, and Saturday, June 25th at 12:30pm versus Palm City FC. Tickets are $5, kids under the age of 16 are admitted free.
