SoccerToday: Do you play club soccer? If so, which club?
Roman Martin: I played for the Nomads Soccer Club for 10 years, including the last 3 years in their U.S. Development Academy for U16 and U18.
SoccerToday: Have you committed to play soccer in college?
Roman Martin: Go Deacs! I’ll be playing at Wake Forest University.
SoccerToday: Who is your favorite professional player?
Roman Martin: I like to score, but love to make an unlocking pass that allows someone else to score. That’s why I tend to like playmakers like Andrea Pirlo from Juventus and Luka Modrić from Real Madrid.
SoccerToday: What team is your favorite?
Roman Martin: Arsenal — Go Gunners! (… Feel free to pass my cell on to Arsène Wenger)
SoccerToday: What’s your favorite part of high school soccer?
Roman Martin: By leaving the Academy over Thanksgiving, it allowed me to play for La Jolla Country Day in my senior season. It is a lot of fun to play with many of my friends from school. It’s a great group and we defend together and share the ball and that’s been a big part of our success.
SoccerToday: What’s your game-day routine?
Roman Martin: My favorite games are at night. For some reason, it just seems that night games have a better atmosphere — and maybe it’s easier to focus. In the run-up to a game, I usually ice my knees, hydrate, take a nap, eat pasta and arrive one hour prior.
SoccerToday: Do you have a favorite inspirational quote?
Roman Martin: I like the sports-related quotes on Twitter @TooAthletic.
SoccerToday: What’s your favorite subject in school?
Roman Martin: Math has always been my favorite. It is one of those subjects where there is always a single answer — I plan to major in business at Wake Forest.
SoccerToday: On your rare soccer-free days, how do you like to relax?
Roman Martin: If I’m not spending time with friends, I like to watch basketball. NBA players, I think, are the best athletes in the world, and it isn’t often that a day goes by when I’m not watching hoops.
