USWNT Close Out Year Versus Romania
U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team vs. Romania 11/13/16 @ 6:30 Tonight – Gates Open at noon.
The USWNT are set to face Romania on Sunday in the second matchup between the two sides this week. A win for the U.S. would mark the third time in WNT history that the program has gone unbeaten during the calendar year that consisted of 10 or more matches. The USA won the first match on Nov. 10, 2016 with a final score of 8-1 with – Press scored 3 goals, Morgan scored 2 goals, Heath and Brian each scored one and Romania scored an own goal.
Soccer News: The U.S. Women’s National Team prepares to take on Romania in its final matchup of the year scheduled for Sunday, November 13th at 7:00 p.m. PT at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA.
The first match between the two sides was held in San Jose on Thursday with the USWNT showing a strong outing in a 8-1 victory at Avaya Stadium.
Forward Christen Press highlighted a strong U.S. attacking side, tallying her fourth career hat-trick. Alex Morgan replaced Press at the break and added two goals to the scoreline despite seeing her penalty kick saved by Roxana Oprea in the 64th minute.
Morgan Brian scored her first goal of 2016 on a diving header, while Tobin Heath added one and forced an own goal in the final minutes of the contest.
The U.S. moves to 21-0-3 record this calendar year and is just one win away from finishing 2016 unbeaten.
Romania is currently ranked 36th in the FIFA rankings.
With a win on Sunday, the mark would be the third time in program history that the U.S. has gone unbeaten in a calendar year that consisted of 10 or more games. The USA went 18-0-4 in 2006 and 13-0-3 in 2013.
The Sunday match between the United States and Romania will air live on FS1.
These two November friendlies are the first matches between the USA and Romania in the history of women’s soccer.
