2015 Scorpions Season to be Presented by deeproot Funds
The San Antonio Scorpions and deeproot Funds have entered into a groundbreaking long-term partnership, Owner Gordon Hartman, President/General Manager Howard Cornfield, and deeproot Funds Principal Robert Mueller announced.
“We are very excited that deeproot Funds has expanded their partnership with Soccer for a Cause as the Official Financial Services Company of the San Antonio Scorpions at the Red Diamond Foundation Partner level,” said Cornfield. “This partnership is massive in scope and reflects the commitment of deeproot to both the Scorpions and our community.
“We are proud to team up with a San Antonio-based company like deeproot Funds. They share many of the same values and philosophies we do as it relates to helping those with special needs and raising the profile of professional soccer in San Antonio. This will be a unique relationship in the sports world with incredibly special marketing elements that will allow us to continue to meet our cause and compete for championships.”
Launched in 2010, the grassroots Soccer for a Cause effort to bring pro soccer to San Antonio ultimately led to the creation of the Scorpions franchise. All net profits from the Scorpions and the team’s 8,000-seat home, Toyota Field, are earmarked for non-profit Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment. Soccer for a Cause proceeds help meet the park’s operating expenses as well as expand programs and services for the special-needs community.
The 2015 season – and each season for the term of the partnership – will be presented by deeproot Funds. The deeproot Funds logo will be placed above the Scorpions’ crest on the team’s on-field jerseys as well as on merchandise.
“The support that deeproot Funds is committing to Soccer for a Cause is tremendous,” said Hartman. “This is a very important step towards realizing our vision for soccer in San Antonio, and I’m also very pleased about what this partnership will do for the special-needs community.”
Community outreach will be a prominent part of the partnership as deeproot Funds will support the annual Maggie’s Wish Breast Cancer Charity Jersey Auction, recognition for Wounded Warriors, as well as the development of a financial literacy program for youth in schools in coordination with the Scorpions. The jersey auction is annually held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October as a way to raise funds for San Antonio-area breast cancer support programs.
For the Wounded Warriors, deeproot Funds will donate tickets to each Scorpions home match that will be reserved in a special section of Toyota Field for Wounded Warriors and their families. Each of the honored guests for a given match will be introduced prior to the game so that they may be recognized for their service by the fans.
Scorpions Vice President Andrew Forrest and deeproot Funds will team with local school districts to create a curriculum for a Financial Literacy Program where students can learn about the importance of saving, good spending habits, and how to maintain strong financial health.
“This partnership represents deeproot’s core values and our firm commitment to Soccer for a Cause, Gordon Hartman’s vision, and important community projects like Maggie’s Wish, the Wounded Warriors and the Financial Literacy Program,” said Mueller. “A little over a year ago, I stood at midfield on the Toyota Field pitch and made a promise to Scorpions fans and the San Antonio community that we would further Soccer for a Cause’s mission and that we would be a significant partner in continuing the advancement of pro soccer in the Alamo City. This innovative partnership is the next step in our evolution as partners of the Scorpions, and believe me when I tell you to stay tuned for more to come.”
Additional marketing aspects of the partnership will include deeproot Funds branding on all game day tickets and season ticket booklets, website and social media logos; all television broadcasts produced by the Scorpions; game program covers; name mentions in all television and radio advertising; permanent signage inside and outside of Toyota Field; and sponsorship of the deeproot Funds Man of the Match.
