Two San Clemente Surf Soccer Players Trial For English Premier League & Scottish Premiership
Youth Soccer News: Cameron Dickie from the B18 team recently had the opportunity of a lifetime going on trial with Dundee FC from the Scottish Premiership and then Crystal Palace from the English Premier League over the recent spring break.
“It’s great to provide opportunities like this for our players, over the course we have arranged 10 professional training/trial experiences for our players at Fulham Oldham, Dundee United, Dundee and Crystal Palace,” said Chris Murray, Director of Coaching for San Clemente Surf. “The feedback we receive from the academy coaches not only helps the players but helps us refine our training model to develop our players to the highest level possible. This combined with the Surf organization partnership with Manchester City really helps us provide the best training experience possible for our players.”

Cameron earned his opportunity by being scouted by former Dundee, Aberdeen and Celtic captain Steve Murray, due to Cameron having a European passport through his dad being Scottish, Steve arranged for him to go on trial with the Dundee FC u20’s with first team g/k coach Bobby Geddes who provided Cameron with great feedback with a view to him returning at a later date.
Next stop was London for Crystal Palace in the EPL, the trial set up by head scout Steve Kember. Cameron impressed so much that his trial was meant to be for a day but was extended for four days and he spent the majority of the time working with the u21’s reserve team and he was able to spend valuable time working with first team coach Julian Speroni, who gave him some great tips and encouragement.
Steve said the club and coaches were very impressed with him and will provide more feedback but are keen to have him return at a later date as they feel he has great opportunity to go far in the game if he continues to work hard and develop.
Isaac Nixon from the ’05 boys was also on trial with Dundee FC Academy at the same time working with academy coach Kevin Garrick and the ’11 boys who said “Isaac has a great attitude, explosive pace and has real potential. It always takes players a little time to adapt to a new environment but he equipped himself well and our boys also enjoyed working with a player from the U.S.” Isaac was able to play in a midweek training game producing a goal and 3 assists, in a prior trial with Fulham FC Isaac scored 4 goals in the game.
“The feedback we get regarding the players we send over is they are great athletes with a terrific attitude and the main thing they have to focus on is speed of play, body mechanics, thinking ahead and it was very similar to when Manchester City u18 coach Jason Wilcox put on a session for the Surf coaches last year. The Dundee academy session, the entire session was one touch only to work on technique, speed of play, thinking ahead and it reflects the increasing speed of the professional game these days. Professionalism is all about dedication, attention to detail and something all our coaches try and incorporate so it’s great learning experience for everyone at the club thanks to the relationships we have with these coaches and clubs.” said Murray.
