San Diego Soccer Club Boys 00 Academy Navy
The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, providing approximately 185,000 players on more than 10,000 teams from US Youth Soccer’s 55 State Associations the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play.
San Diego Soccer Club‘s (SDSC) Boys U14 team is advancing to Nationals. The San Diego SC 00 Academy Navy team is a team that started at U7. There are four boys currently on the team that are from the original U7 team and seven boys from U8.
“What makes this team so good is exactly that, they play as a team,” said Jim Flowers, Recreational Soccer Director. “The chemistry on this team is one of its biggest strengths, along with a lot of exceptional players. We are not dependent on anyone, we are successful if the team does well as a group. When new players come in, they are brought in quickly and learn what it takes to be a part of the team. Also, the coach demands that they acclimate quickly and learn to play our way.”
Brian Quinn is the coach and this is his third year with the team. Quinn is a Director of Coaching with the club, he has been with SDSC since its inception. Brian has a long list of accomplishments, including playing for the US Men’s National Team, winning multiple championships with the San Diego Sockers and coaching in the MLS with the San Jose Earthquakes.
“The boys are proud and honored to represent San Diego and Cal South at Nationals,” said Quinn. “It is the culmination of six years of effort and desire to improve that has got them to this point. With Jim Flowers and Kenny Daum providing the initial guidance and then the the inimitable John Napier taking over and handing the reins over to me, it has been a joy to coach the boys. They continue to strive to improve on their individual talents while recognizing that the synergy to be a team is the ultimate goal.”
Great kids, great families, and great experiences sums up what this team is about with more to come.
The 2015 US Youth Soccer National Championships will be held July 21-26, at Mohawk Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
