The Second-Best Record In The MASL And A Perfect 11-0 At Home At Stake
With the Pacific Divisional Championship Series Beginning on Thursday At Tacoma, San Diego’s indoor championship soccer team is ready to seize the opportunity that has been building all season. With a strong roster with great chemistry, this year’s Sockers have what it takes to go the distance. The question is — can the San Diego Sockers successfully bring home their 15th national championship to America’s Finest City?
The Pacific Division Champion San Diego Sockers (18-3) close out the 2017-18 MASL season today, Saturday, March 3, at 7:05 p.m., at Valley View Casino Center against the El Paso Coyotes.
It will be Fan Appreciation Night, featuring a FREE Juli Veee Vintage Sockers T-Shirt to the first 2,000 fans, $2 Bud Lights and the annual All-Star Celebrity Game at halftime.
Tonight will also be a special awards presentation to the hard-working youth soccer team managers in San Diego’s Presidio Soccer League which has 20,000 competitive players. Presidio has approximately 1,350 youth soccer teams playing on the weekends, and the team managers are the often forgotten lifeblood of the beautiful game on the youth level.

“Team managers volunteer many hours each year to ensure the successful management of their teams’ players and parents,” said Bob Turner, president of Presidio. “They are the backbone of every team and unfortunately their efforts usually go unnoticed unless there is an issue. We appreciate the Sockers partnering with us to recognize these team managers in our first annual ‘Manager of the Year’ award presentation.”
With a win, San Diego will have the second-best record in the MASL (19-3), and finished undefeated at home (11-0).
El Paso comes to town on Saturday after playing on Friday in Turlock. The Coyotes are out of playoff contention but have been playing well of late with a two-game win streak. Their leading scorer is Christian Guiterrez with 35 goals and 12 assists for 47 points.
The Sockers have a lot to look forward to beginning on March 8 against Tacoma in the playoffs; however, they cannot look past the visiting Coyotes. San Diego has dispatched their last six opponents in a workmanlike manner, and they must continue to do that to win the game.
The goalkeeper tandem of Boris Pardo and Chris Toth continues to be ranked #1 and #2 in the league. Kraig Chiles surpassed the 50 point scoring mark with his two goals and one assist performance last night in Ontario for a total of 52.
San Diego starts the 2018 MASL Ron Newman Cup playoffs on the road in Tacoma against the Stars in Game One of the Divisional Championship Series.
