San Diego’s Futsal Fever Reaches New Heights
America has fallen in love with futsal — the action packed, high-speed indoor soccer game usually played on a basketball court.
Many of the best players in the world play futsal — the game is fabulous for developing skill and technique. While Falcão — the Brazilian futsal player — is probably the world’s best player, the list of top soccer professionals who believe that futsal has helped improve their game is endless. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Ronaldinho and Pele are all among the world famous pros who believe the 5-a-side game of futsal helps produce great talent.
With a small size court and only 5 players playing at a time, every player is involved in the action.
The game of futsal offers a high number of touches on the ball — providing great training and making sure every player is actively involved.
Futsal really is the way the world plays indoor soccer. The game is played on all the continents and in over 100 countries — by more than 12 million players. In America, U.S. FUTSAL (USFF) has been governing the sport since 1981 and has announced a partnership with San Diego’s Presidio Soccer League.
Presidio Futsal League, in partnership with U.S. Futsal, is excited to offer San Diego’s youth players a new opportunity to play the great sport of futsal.
“The action-packed game of futsal is exhilarating and I am thrilled to be working with Presidio president Bob Turner and bringing more futsal to America’s 8th largest city,” said Alex Para, President & CEO of United States Futsal Federation.
“A player has more touches with the ball in futsal than outdoor soccer and it is the ideal tool for player development.”
“Southern California is known as a hot bed of youth soccer talent and I know the Presidio Futsal League will be very successful,” says Para.
“This is going to be great,” said Turner. “My daughter plays futsal and loves it. We will offer a well-organized league — and, this will be an outstanding chance for San Diego’s youth soccer players to enjoy a fantastic player development environment.”
Turner met with Para in LA at the NSCAA Convention earlier this month and planned a first class roll out for the new futsal league in San Diego.
Presidio Futsal League will kick off the action on February 26, 2017.
Presidio Futsal League Details: All games will be played at the state of the art facility Wave Volleyball Club in Del Mar, California. There are 4 courts at the facility and a total of 28 games will be played per day.
The league is open for Boys and Girls born in 2007 (U10) through 2003 (U14). The new futsal league will offer two flights (Flight 1 and Flight 2) per calendar year age group and each team will play a total of 6 games. Special Bonus: Flight 1 League Champions will receive automatic entry in the 32 team USSF National Championship held in July 2017.
The games will be played on the following dates:
February 26th, March 5th, 12th, 19th, April 2nd and 9th, 2017.
The USFF sponsors futsal leagues played throughout the United States that are designed for beginners as well as premier players of all ages.
Futsal is a great skill-developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin-point passing. It is an exciting game for youth players as well as adults.
Futsal is played with a special low bounce ball, requiring players to use their skills, rather than the ball’s bounce, to propel it.
