San Diego Sockers Continue Hot Streak With Road Victory
The Sockers edged the Tacoma Stars on the road in the visitor’s first Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) matchup of the weekend. San Diego is in solid form having won seven straight matches since a 5-4 home loss to Tacoma on December 22nd.
MASL Soccer News: The San Diego Sockers opened the weekend with a 9-4 road victory over the Tacoma Stars on Friday night.
The Sockers improved to a league-best 9-1 record led by Brandon Escoto’s hat-trick and two goals from Brian Farber. Goalkeeper Boris Pardo tallied nine saves to earn his league-leading ninth victory.
For the fifth consecutive game, the Sockers conceded the first goal when Tacoma’s Rafael Cox opened the scoring at 6:21 of the first quarter. Kraig Chiles and Taylor Bond recorded the next two goals for San Diego. Chiles, who leads the team in scoring, has a nine-game point streak. Tacoma’s Nick Perera brought the match level to finish the half a 2-2 draw.
The Sockers tallied four of the next five goals to claim a 6-3 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the match. Leonardo De Oliveira and Felipe Gonzalez found the back of the net past Tacoma goalkeeper Danny Waltman.
The Stars played a majority of the fourth quarter with a sixth-attacker. Tacoma scored a goal to cut the lead to 6-4, but minutes later allowed Escoto to score his second of the match to regain control for San Diego.
