San Diego Sockers Edge Tacoma Stars at Home
The San Diego Sockers won its second straight game over the weekend in a competitive matchup at the Valley View Casino Center. San Diego edged the Tacoma Stars with Kraig Chiles recording four goals on the night. The Sockers prepare to host Turlock Express this Friday with kickoff set for 7:35 p.m. PT.
MASL Soccer News: The San Diego Sockers came out firing on Friday night versus the Tacoma Stars in a matchup between the top two clubs of the MASL Pacific Division. The Sockers edged the visiting squad 5-2 with captain Kraig Chiles leading the charge with four goals on the night.
The Sockers kicked off the scoring in the opening minute as Chiles struck home an open volley with the assist credited to Brian Farber. Farber was thrilled to be back in the arena with his teammates and demonstrated his exceptional speed and technical abilities.
Chiles added his second goal in the 11th minute of the first quarter, while Raymundo Reza extended the Sockers’ lead two minutes later.
The Sockers closed out the half with a 3-1 lead, but Tacoma would rally to push the match to the limit. The Stars recorded two early third quarter goals to even the game at 3-3.
The first came as a result of a quick power-play goal with Alex Megson scoring one minute into the second half. Two minutes later, Derek Johnson brought the match level following a poor clearance by the hosts.
Chiles added two more goals both assisted by Scott Martin to close out a 5-3 win at home.
“Last night was a massive game for the San Diego Sockers and the Western Conference standings,” said Kraig Chiles. “It was great to be back at the Valley View Casino Center in front of the best indoor fans in the country.”
“This team – -the San Diego Sockers — can win the championship,” said Chiles. “At this point we have yet to peak, which in my opinion is perfectly fine. It’s about being at your best in March.”
Sockers goalkeeper Chris Toth had an amazing night between the posts, recording 22 saves on the night. Chiles’ (296) four goals earned him Player of the Game Honors and brought him within two goals of Sockers all-time scoring leader Branko Segota (298).
Breaking Records:
Chiles is two goals away from breaking the goal scoring record and his third goal will beat it. “I can tell you next week the Free Kicks will be mine and the rest of the team will be feeding me to help me break this record at home,” said Chiles. Sports fans should watch out for the next San Diego Sockers’ match where records are likely to be set!.
The game was exciting and fans were thrilled to cheer for their favorite San Diego team.
