SDSU Men’s Soccer Kick Off 2016 Campaign in Washington
SDSU Men’s Soccer prepares for the 2016 campaign as the Aztecs travel to Washington to compete in the Gonzaga Soccer Tournament before welcoming No. 2 Akron to Montezuma Mesa next Friday. The Aztecs enter their 12th season in the Pac-12 Conference with nine of their 11 starters returning from last season.

College Soccer News: San Diego State men’s soccer opens the 2016 season as they travel to Spokane, Washington, to participate in the Gonzaga Soccer Tournament. The Aztecs will kick off the weekend versus defending regular-season Horizon League champion UIC on Friday, Aug. 26, at 3:30 p.m. PT.
SDSU’s second matchup will be against Bradley University on Sunday, August 28th, with kickoff set for noon. Streaming video will be available for both matches via Campus Insiders, along with Gametracker live stats.
SDSU’s 2016 schedule features nine matches against teams that finished first or second in their respective conferences last campaign. The Aztecs also prepare for home-and-away matches in Pac-12 competition with defending national champion Stanford and second-round NCAA Tournament participant UCLA.
“We are very excited about the teams we are playing this year. We always play a difficult schedule, but this may be the best in my career,” states head coach Lev Kirshner.
The Aztecs kicked off the 2016 campaign with two preseason friendlies in a 3-2 victory over Santa Clara at home and a scoreless draw in double overtime at Cal State Northridge on August 21st.
The Aztecs return nine of their 11 starters from last season, including Matt Callahan and Kyle Adams, who earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) third-team all-region honors. Adams was also named a third-team all-freshman selection by College Soccer News, while goalkeeper Adam Allmaras and defender Travis Nicklaw received all-Pac-12 honorable mention.
The Aztecs enter their 12th season in the Pac-12 with SDSU being picked fifth in the preseason coaches poll released August 16th.
SDSU welcome No. 2 Akron to the SDSU Sports Deck Friday, September 2nd with kickoff set for 7 p.m. PT.
“Having the number two team in the country at our campus is validation to the quality of our program. We don’t hide from anyone and kudos to Jared and his Akron group for leaving their home state,” said Kirshner.
