Soccer News from SYL: The 2016 Super Y League field continues to take shape as seven additional clubs have announced their inclusion for this summer’s campaign. This group includes FC Boston Scorpions, Calvert-Elite SC, the Concorde Fire, Deltona Youth Soccer, Lake Norman Soccer Club, Smyrna SC and Sunrise United SC.
Florida-based Sunrise United and Deltona are joining the league’s Southeast Division.
“We are honored to be a part of an organization with the experience, professionalism and history in developing elite soccer players,” Deltona Youth SC’s Mario Alvarado said. “We believe that Deltona will be a valuable asset that will continue to further the competitive level of the Super Y League. The new partnership among Deltona, the Super Y League, U.S. Soccer and the USL will hopefully be a long and successful journey.”
The South Atlantic Division welcomes two clubs in the longstanding Concorde Fire, which has been in operations since 1982 in Atlanta, and fellow Georgia-based Smyrna SC.
“The goal of Smyrna Soccer Club has been to train and develop the area’s best soccer players,” Smyrna SC Executive Director Bryan Waltenburg said. “Our acceptance in the Super Y League now affords those players the opportunity to compete at one of the highest levels of youth soccer available in the country.”
Calvert-Elite SC targets the Southern Maryland market and will be joining the league’s Mid Atlantic Division.
“Calvert-Elite SC is very proud to have been accepted into the Super Y League in 2016,” Calvert-Elite Director of Coaching Will Morris said. “We are always looking to improve the ways in which we develop and train our players. We feel that being a part of a summer league that feels the same way is another important step in the process of producing topnotch players.
Lake Norman Soccer Club, located in Mooresville, N.C., joins the SYL’s Carolina Division. FC Boston Scorpions, which was created last year with the merger of Scorpions SC and FC Greater Boston Bolts, will field a girls’ team in the SYL’s New England Division.
