Increasing Awareness and Fundraising to Help Find a Cure
New Jersey women’s club Sky Blue FC has announced its philanthropic partnership with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Sky Blue FC joins the NOCC that was established by ovarian cancer advocates and survivors to raise awareness and find a cure for the disease that affects more than 20,000 individuals every year.
Soccer News: Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced that it has created a philanthropic partnership with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC). Through the relationship, Sky Blue FC will work with the NOCC to increase awareness, fundraise and ultimately find a cure for the devastating disease.
“We are delighted to form this partnership with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition,” said Tony Novo, Sky Blue FC President & General Manager. “The NOCC is a truly incredible organization whose admirable work will eventually lead to finding a cure for ovarian cancer. On behalf of Sky Blue FC, we will do everything we can to assist them in that mission.”
The NOCC was established in 1991 by ovarian cancer advocates and survivors. More than 20,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and roughly 15,000 women die from the disease annually. It is the mission of the NOCC to raise awareness, to find a cure and to improve the quality of life for those suffering from ovarian cancer.
“The NOCC is proud to partner with Sky Blue FC as we empower communities to do more, feel better and help the women in our lives live longer,” said Debra Battista, the New Jersey State Chapter Manager for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. “We are bound together for one “goal”, one purpose. To WIN… the fight against ovarian cancer.”
As part of the relationship, Sky Blue FC will welcome the NOCC to its Wednesday, September 7th, match against the Orlando Pride at Yurcak Field, with special recognition given to the organization and its efforts to defeat ovarian cancer. Kickoff for that game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
Additionally that night, the club will host Hailey Vonasek, a recent graduate from Bloomberg College and an ovarian cancer survivor. Vonasek was diagnosed with ovarian cancer as a senior in high school following what she initially believed to be an abdomen injury while playing soccer. The New Jersey native has since overcome the disease and will be celebrating five years of remission in 2016.
