Soccer News: Perth Glory FC won its second consecutive game over the weekend in Westfield W-League play, edging Sydney FC, 1-0.
The lone goal in the contest came in the 18th minute, as Sky Blue FC forward Sam Kerr collected the ball in the midfield and slid a pass to Shawn Billam who continued to march down the field. Billam dribbled the ball down the center of the Sydney FC defense and sent a hard roller to Rosie Sutton on top of the penalty area.
By that point, Kerr was finishing her run through the middle of the box, and Sutton fed her into space just outside the right post. Kerr then ran onto the pass and one-timed a beautiful shot that curled around the goalkeeper and hit the right-side netting.
Throughout the remainder of the fixture, Kerr created multiple opportunities and came just inches short of adding to her goal total on the day. However, her 18th minute goal would prove to be all that Perth needed to recrord the result and a critical three points.
With the win, Perth now has 10 points on the season and is just two points shy of the top of the W-League table.
