Dramatic Growth: Second Round of Youth Soccer Clubs Join US Club Soccer’s SOCAL
What started ten years ago when like-minded coaches got together and were fed up with the league options in Southern California and created their own has now forever changed the landscape of youth soccer. With the tagline ‘WeAreSOCAL’ and the new branding, SCDSL is making a huge impact.
SOCAL, originally known as the Southern California Developmental Soccer League (SCDSL), has just grown substantially with the addition of 18 new member clubs. SOCAL had initially welcomed 15 “All-In” youth soccer clubs in early March including Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks, San Diego Surf, San Diego Soccer Club, Rebels SC, Rangers FC, Santa Monica Surf, Downtown Las Vegas Soccer Club and Poway Vaqueros Soccer Club.
“The addition of the newest members to SOCAL really reinforces that we are doing something quite extraordinary in our market.”
Michelle Chesters, SOCAL’s Director of Operations.
Just over five weeks ago, SOCAL had an approximately 38,000 competitive youth soccer players. Now, this estimate has increased to an even bigger number — 45,000+.
“Clubs continue to reach out interested in joining the SOCAL movement because of everything we have put together for the future,” said Michelle Chesters, SOCAL’s Director of Operations.
It is a shared common vision with a streamlined focus which has cut through Southern California’s highly competitive and fragmented youth soccer market and drawn the clubs together — with every club realizing the value of being unified and participating in the well organized programming.

US Club Soccer’s mission is to foster the growth and development of soccer clubs throughout the country to create the best possible development environment for players of all ages in every club. The primary vehicle for accomplishing that ambition is Players First: a branded, holistic club soccer experience for parents and players which emphasizes the development of each individual to his or her full potential, and helps parents make better choices about where their children should play. That Players First philosophy is supported by best-in-class partners and resources, including LaLiga, and is anchored by five pillars: Club Development, Coaching Development, Player Development, Parent Engagement & Education, and Player Health & Safety.
In particular, Player Health & Safety is the emphasis, as US Club Soccer prides itself on fostering the safest environment for players in youth sports. US Club Soccer has stringent requirements for all staff registration/eligibility and also provides a variety of safety-related resources to members.
