Nike Release Tiempo Pirlo in Honor of Italian Legend
Nike Football has released its latest boots dedicated to the Italian maestro Andrea Pirlo with a distinct design that celebrates his secret love for winemaking. The boots pays homage to his family’s winery called Pratum Coller and the success of the Italian National Team.
The limited edition Tiempo Pirlo will be available September 19th via Nike.
Nike new cleats are an elegant and beautiful throw back to when cleats performed for the player — and did not simply shout with color.
It is a great honor to inspire Nike to design a pair of cleats. And that is exactly what 37 year-old soccer legend Andrea Pirlo has done. While his days on the soccer field may be numbered, Pirlo’s passion is strong — and so is his fan base. Now playing for New York City FC in Major League Soccer, Pirlo is well known as one of the world’s top midfielders. Formerly with A.C. Milan and Juventus, Pirlo led Italy to the 2006 FIFA World Cup championship. An international soccer star, Pirlo began his playing days in Italy as a youth with Brescia Calicio.
One thing has been consistent with Pirlo — besides soccer. His passion for wine. He owns the small Pratum Coller winery in Flero, his hometown in northern Italy — and, Pirlo’s love of wine seems to have become the inspiration for the color of Nike’s new cleats, the Tiempo Pirlo, which sports a distinctive merlot colourway.
Fact: Nike has decided to combine Italian legend Andrea Pirlo’s love for winemaking and football in a special edition Tiempo boot that will be released next week.
According to the Nike press release: The Flero native’s obsession of wine can almost be in comparison to his love for football. Pirlo’s wine history goes back to his childhood where he spent much of his time harvesting grapes at local vineyards. His passion for fine wine led Pirlo and his family to open a winery called Pratum Coller.
To celebrate Pirlo’s dual career, Nike Football has crafted a limited edition Tiempo Pirlo.
The boot features premium Alegria leather in a merlot colorway inspired by the juice of the grape. Similar to Pratum Coller’s logo, four gold stars appear on the boot’s heel to honor the four World Cup titles won by Italy. The Italian flag is also featured on the lace aglet.
As a nod to Tiempo’s heritage and the process of producing wine, Aged Since ’94 appears in gold on a cork sockliner and also on the shoebox.
The limited edition Tiempo Pirlo will be available September 19 via the Nike Football App and Nike’s website.
