Youth Soccer News: The 33rd soccerloco San Diego Surf Cup Starts Soon
The soccerloco San Diego Surf Cup presented by NIKE 33rd youth soccer tournament is now over. The final youth soccer matches have been played and the new champions announced.
One of the top three youth soccer competitions in the United States, this highly competitive tournament is held over two weekends: July 27-29, 2013 for Boys and Girls teams in the Under 18, Under 17 and Under 16 age groups; August 3‐5, 2013 for Boys and Girls teams in the Under 15 through Under 10 age groups.
While Disney Soccer Showcase and Dallas Cup also rank in the top three youth tournaments in the USA, Surf Cup slogan of “The Best of The Best” is unmistakably recognizable as spectators, coaches and players walk the pristine and immaculate fields of the San Diego Polo Club in Del Mar, CA. With a record high attendance on Saturday, August 4th of more than 20,000 visitors, this year’s Surf Cup was the most impressive.
As in many years past, this year’s tournament turned away more teams than most tournaments could ever attract. The total of 378 teams accepted to compete in the 33rd annual competition represented 22 State Soccer Associations, US Youth Soccer and three countries. Mike Connerley, Surf Cup’s Tournament Director, told me, “We turn away more teams than we accepted. This is a highly competitive youth soccer tournament. To compete in this tournament your team really has to be one of the Best of the Best. To win this prestigious tournament is really an accomplishment. Then your team is the Best of the Best.”
To have a youth soccer team particiapte is an accomplishment, to win this highly ranked tournament is outstanding. Got Soccer awards 10,000 points for earning the title of Surf Cup champion and teams can be catapulted to the top of the table claiming the #1 rank in the Nation.
