San Diego Sockers Earn Fifth Win In A Row
Kraig Chiles and Jeff Hughes each scored hat tricks as the San Diego Sockers (11-3) won their fifth straight, beating the Sacramento Surge 13-6 at the Jackson Sports Academy in the state capitol. Chiles, Hughes and Nick Perera (two goals, two assists) each produced four-point games as the Sockers built leads of 7-1 at half and 11-3 after three quarters.
Playing their second game in a three-day, three-game trip, the Sockers took advantage of the fresh legs of Hughes, who sat out Friday’s 10-3 win in Turlock.
“It was fun, I was eager to get back out there and we took care of business,” said Hughes, who has 25 points on the season in 13 games.
Chiles extended his scoring streaks to fourteen straight with a goal, and a PASL/MASL record 59 straight with a point. He assisted on Hughes’ free kick goal early in the second quarter before netting twice himself before halftime. With 35 goals on the season, Chiles is five off the league lead (Gordy Gurson-STL, 40).
Eduardo Velez, Chiky Luna, Anthony Medina, Chad Hagerty, and Ney also scored for the Sockers. Luna and Velez each added a pair of assists. Jesus Molina started in goal and improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Sockers wrap up their weekend sojourn through the Central Valley on Sunday afternoon when they meet the Surge (3-11) once again at 3pm.
