South Bronx United Wins BU16 Arch Capital Group Cup
New York Youth Soccer News: After losing to Terryville AC Milan, 8-3, in last year’s Arch Capital Group Cup final, South Bronx United SBU 98 of the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL) rebounded with a 6-2 win over the North Shore Crush of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) in the 2015 Boys-Under-16 final. This big match was played on June 13 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.
Jesus Muniz scored two goals while Evans Asamoah, Kevin Camacho, Derek Cordova and Abou Bacar Diaby each added one to pace South Bronx United.
“Our team was working better together this year than in last year’s final,” commented South Bronx United coach Daniel Vergara. “We didn’t drop our heads when they scored first. Toward the end of the game, we were finishing very well.”
North Shore received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award for the Fair Play they demonstrated in the final. If the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) had a best-dressed award, South Bronx United would certainly win it since all their players arrived at the field in white dress shirts and ties.
Eastern New York would like to thank our sponsor, Arch Capital Group, which writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.
“This cup competition is a great event in that it gives young people an opportunity to experience high levels of competition. And you don’t have to be the best team in the state to win a championship with the Arch Capital Group Cup,” said Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Arch Capital.
With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 11 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
