New Partnership to Benefit San Diego Youth Soccer Players
Soccer News: A partnership was announced between Surf Cup Sports, one of the most influential and recognized soccer programs and event organizers in the nation, and Cal South‘s Presidio Soccer League, the largest soccer league in San Diego and southern Riverside Counties. At a casual ceremony that took place at the San Diego Polo Fields, Surf Cup Sports President Mike Connerley and Presidio Soccer League President Bob Turner signed a multi-faceted, long-term agreement between the two organizations that will significantly benefit the youth soccer community.
“We are excited to commence this partnership with Presidio Soccer League,” said Connerley. “The league has been around for a long time and offers a competitive soccer experience and great service to the community and players in its league.”
“We are always looking to provide the best possible experience for the more than 19,500 players that are currently competing in Presidio and the San Diego Developmental Academy and their families,” added Turner. “This partnership with Surf Cup Sports allows us to further improve our player development programs by utilizing a fantastic soccer facility to enhance our league’s competition level and continue to maintain San Diego on the world stage as a dominant soccer community.”
As part of the unique partnership, a new annual youth soccer showcase tournament has been announced, which will take place November 14-15, 2015. The showcase promises to be a first-class event and will host more than 250 San Diego-based youth club teams from age brackets of under-11 to under-19. Presidio will also host a second tournament annually at the San Diego Polo Fields.
“We are thrilled that we can host the upcoming SDDA Showcase in November at the San Diego Polo Fields,” said Turner. “We really appreciate Mike Connerley’s support. This will be a first class tournament held at one single facility and this is definitely in the best interest San Diego youth soccer players. Younger players will have an opportunity to be seen by Cal South’s ODP scouts and we will hold the annual SDDA College Showcase. We are expecting college coaches from all over the area to come and watch the best of SDDA play.”
In addition to the new annual showcase and tournament, Presidio Soccer League announced its unequivocal support and endorsement of Surf Cup Sports’ plan to seek permission from the City of San Diego to operate at the San Diego Polo Fields. Earlier this month, the City of San Diego released for public bid a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the lease of the San Diego Polo Fields for the next 25-30 years.
“Since 1993, Surf Cup Sports has demonstrated their ability to organize and operate first-class soccer tournaments at the San Diego Polo Fields. We support their direct bid for the property to expand and upgrade the facilities and complete field renovations that we believe will make the property one of the finest natural grass soccer facilities in the nation,” said Turner.
This has been worked on for a very long time, it is great to see that it has finally come to fruition.
