3rd Annual Surf SC Hawaii College ID Camp A Success
At many college soccer showcases and camps across the nation, participating players dream of being recruited and receiving an offer. At the Surf SC Hawaii’s College ID Camp, players were delighted with the college soccer coach turnout. In fact, this event guaranteed over 30 college coaches in attendance, training and evaluating players for 3 days in the most beautiful of all locations, Hawaii.
Surf SC Hawaii‘s third annual College ID Camp was held February 27, 28 and March 1st. Over 200 Girls and 50 Boys from Canada, Washington, California and of course Hawaii attended the camp.
This was the 1st year the camp included boys and they are happy to report that many of them already received offers from colleges, MLS Academy’s and European Soccer Clubs.
“This camp has helped many players play college soccer. We had a few PAC 12 Schools that recruited and are in the process of recruiting more Hawaiians,” said Shawn Kuroda, Surf SC Hawaii Director.
Taylor Kuroda was noticed from the very first camp and recently just signed her letter of intent with the University of Oregon. Kuroda is considered one of the best forwards to come out of Hawaii and has scored hundreds of goals as a youth player.
Before attending the camp, Shaye Villanueva was a senior with no serious offers. After the the three day camp, Villanueva received offers from multiple colleges and selected to accept the University of Washington.
Kyllie Yasutake also attended last year as a sophomore and is already committed to Oregon State University.
Chai Cortez is currently on the US National Team Player and has already verbally committed to the University of Oregon. Cortez is only a freshmen at Maui High School.
The PAC 12 is considered the toughest conference for women’s soccer and Surf SC Hawaii is proud to be a part of helping players achieve their dreams of playing college soccer.
Not just the players enjoyed the camp. Take a look at what the college coaches have to say about the College ID soccer camp:
“The first thing I noticed when i got to the field was a board with all of the information on the attending coaches. It immediately allowed every player there know who they were working with and potentially being recruited by. The camp had ample field space to allow each coach the opportunity to work with the group. The number of coaches at the camp meant that each coach had the time to both implement a part of the session and then plenty of time left over to monitor the other coaches session and get a good look at each player. The overall level of the players in attendance was top class and the competitive and hard working nature of the Hawaiian players made it a fun few days of camp.” Keith Costigam, UC Irvine.
“Thanks again for the opportunity to help out at camp and for including me in the group of coaches that attended. It was a fantastic few days and I’d love to be a part of it again in the future. The players you guys have in Hawaii are fantastic, not only as soccer players, but also in their personality and character, from what I’ve seen. We’d love to get a few of them over to San Francisco” David Frank, Academy of Art University.
“Hawaii College ID Camp is like no other. The combination of the location, number of quality coaches, and great group of players make this camp one of the most unique and best camps around. I was very impressed by Hawaii Surf’s commitment to showcase players from all four Islands and bring college coaches from literally coast to coast to work with these players. We don’t often get to see players from the islands and it is a great opportunity for us coaches to evaluate many qualities players that we don’t know about here in the mainland.” Hideki Nakada, Stanford University.
“Thank you for having me as part of the coaching staff in Hawaii. It was a great weekend – everything was well organized, the girls worked hard and I saw quite few kids that I liked. I look forward to seeing some of them play on the mainland this Spring and Summer.” Brendan Faherty, University of Washington
“I really appreciated the camp environment and experience in my first year coming and hope to return. The talent level was very good, and the camp was run incredibly professional.” Chad Bodnar, Head Coach at Eastern Washington University
“All of us as college coaches enjoyed the opportunity to work with the players from the islands. The camp was run very professionally. The kindness and hospitality shown by you and your staff was first class, and the facility itself was excellent. We are sure you will have continued success in the future.” Neil McGuire, University of California, Berkeley
